For patients with squamous, metastatic non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC)

A Study of Carboplatin-Paclitaxel/Nab-Paclitaxel Chemotherapy With or Without Pembrolizumab in Adults With First Line Metastatic Squamous Non-small Cell Lung Cancer

This is a study of carboplatin and paclitaxel or nano particle albumin-bound paclitaxel (nab-paclitaxel) with or without pembrolizumab in adults with first line metastatic squamous non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). The primary hypotheses are that treatment with pembrolizumab prolongs: 1) Progression-free Survival (PFS) by Response Evaluation Criteria in Solid Tumors version 1.1 (RECIST 1.1) as assessed by a blinded central imaging vendor compared to placebo, and 2) Overall Survival (OS).

Trial Phase

The investigational immunotherapy is being studied in a large group of patients to confirm its effectiveness, monitor side effects, compare it to commonly used treatments, and collect information that will allow the investigational immunotherapy to be used safely.

Eligibility

About the Trial

All patients who enroll in the trial will receive medication while on the study.

  • 50% will receive pembrolizumab along with carboplatin and either paclitaxel or nab-paclitaxel*
  • 50% will receive placebo along with carboplatin and either paclitaxel or nab-paclitaxel*

You will be assigned by chance (a process called randomization) to receive one of the above treatments. *Your doctor will decide which treatment is best for you.

Clinical Trials: Important Information to Consider

There is a lot to consider when deciding whether to participate in a clinical study. Any clinical study includes risks, which the study doctor will review with you. Make sure you understand the risks before participating.
